EMC Scholarship Foundation Donates to Adult Education Pilot Program

The East Montgomery County Scholarship Foundation (EMCSF) contributed $10,000 to a pilot program through Mission Northeast to assist adults interested in job training certification classes.

This educational opportunity will be available thanks to a partnership between Mission Northeast and Lone Star College-Kingwood. The EMCSF Board voted late last year to approve the funding to Mission Northeast after meeting with Lone Star College-Kingwood President Melissa Gonzalez and Mission Northeast Executive Director Pam Dickson.

They shared how beneficial the pilot program would be to help adults further their education and job training at Lone Star College-Kingwood. This program follows EMCSF’s mission to furnish educational aid to the community.

“What an honor and privilege it is to partner with Mission Northeast, helping adults further their education with this pilot program,” said Brenda Webb, EMSF Chairman. “We are excited to see East Montgomery County adult residents achieve their dream of obtaining certification or a degree in the field of their passion.”

Since the $10,000 was awarded in December 2021, five students have enrolled, including three single moms and two students living at home. Two of those students enrolled in the dental program, two in phlebotomy, and one is receiving her associate degree. The funding has provided tuition, books, and supplies for those students who may not have been able to afford these items.

“This program would be available for adults who do not qualify – age-wise – for the $1,600 EMCID provides for area high school graduates,” Mission Northeast Executive Director Pam Dickson said. “An exciting aspect of our partnership is a mentoring program through LSC-K. We will begin having a twice-monthly representative from LSC-K available to meet with Mission Northeast clients to introduce them to higher learning opportunities.”

The EMCSF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit subsidiary of the East Montgomery County Improvement District created to promote the economic, social and cultural development of the area through education.
