Wienerschnitzel. The name alone is enough to evoke memories from many people’s childhoods of enjoying chili dogs, fries and hamburgers.
There were a few reasons the franchise owners wanted to open the first of many locations in New Caney.
From the beginning, the owners had regular conversations with the East Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation, a subsidiary of the East Montgomery County Improvement District, who helped make this dream become a reality.
“We liked the demographics and our target customer base is located within this county,” said Zaheed Umatiya, owner. “It only seemed logical to supply what the community wants, and they were all very excited for us to open the restaurant here in East Montgomery County.”
The Wienerschnitzel officially opened in May 2019, thriving since then with people driving hundreds of miles to enjoy a hot dog and even a man who biked from downtown Houston to eat a hot dog like he did when he was a kid.
“We were amazed this guy rode his bike so many miles just to have one of our hot dogs. This was the perfect spot to open a Wienerschnitzel because of visibility, our residents and the fact there was not a hot dog restaurant in the EMC area,” said Razee Ali, owner. “Originally, the New Caney location was going to be our second restaurant to open and Baytown was scheduled to be the first, but because of the demand and growth in the New Caney, this one opened first. The response from our customers and the community has been very positive.”
Zaheed and his team have plans to open several more Wienerschnitzel’s in the Houston area to meet the customers’ demands.
“EMCEDC went above and beyond our expectations and welcomed us to the community wholeheartedly,” said Zaheed. “If anyone is looking to relocate or open shop in East Montgomery County, they need to call the EMCEDC first because there are many services and assistance the organization can offer and help your business succeed.”
