The East Montgomery County Improvement District will host Shred It EMC, a free document shredding event, on Saturday, May 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the EMCID Complex parking lot, located at 21575 U.S. Highway 59 North in New Caney.
Shredding is a quick and convenient way to dispose of sensitive information in a manner that provides added security against identity theft — and it’s great for the environment. All shredded documents are recycled.
“People respond very positively to this event,” said Frank McCrady, President/CEO. “You don’t have to do a thing. Drive up and we’ll take your boxes or bags of documents, empty them into the shredding bin, and up they go into a massive shredder.”
Area residents and business owners dropped off a combined 15,000 pounds of documents at the last two events, filling up about three-quarters of the available space in the shredding vehicle each year.
Vehicles should enter through Eagle Drive by the R.B. Tullis Library and drive straight back to the EMCID Complex. Vehicles will exit right onto the U.S. Highway 59 frontage road.

“We’ve identified six zones in East Montgomery County where residents are struggling with cleanup efforts, and eating or figuring out how to provide meals for their families is probably the last thing on their minds,” said Frank McCrady, President and CEO.
The EMCID CAREavans, marked with Hometown Chef’s marketing wrap and magnetic signage identifying EMCID’s involvement, will target two zones a day, hitting each at least twice per week.
“We’re proud to be helping the community in this way,” said Tiffany Avila, owner of Hometown Chef. “This is what we do. We prepare food for people, and this partnership helps to restore some normalcy for us as well.”
Thank you to the Signorelli Company for helping sponsor this program!
Each morning the CAREavans’ destinations will be announced on EMCID’s facebook page, facebook.com/EMCID, and its webpage, emctx.com/recovery to let residents in those neighborhoods know good food is on the way between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
