It’s no secret the East Montgomery County Improvement District is a huge suppporter of law enforcement. Since 1998, EMCID has lent support financially by providing more than $540,000 to East Montgomery County’s police officers and constable’s deputies.
The funds have allowed school districts and city and county law enforcement agencies to buy items like body cameras, bullet-proof vests, video security systems, communications equipment, and metal detectors in an effort to keep officers, residents and our community safe.
EMCID’s commitment to law enforcement was evident again when one of its directors, who is also a police officer, attended the funeral of fallen New York City Police Officer Rafael “Ralph” Ramos, who was killed December 20 as he sat in his patrol car with partner Officer Wenjian Liu. Stephen Carlisle, who was elected to the Board of Directors in 2014, is Chief of the Roman Forest Police Department. He said he was touched by citizens’ outpouring of respect to law enforcement and attendees’ make-shift signs with supportive statements.
Costs associated with the trip were paid for by Jet Blue Airlines, the New York Police Department and Carlisle’s personal funds.
