The Board of Directors presented checks June 20 to five non-profit organizations and two police departments for community development grants totaling $46,500. The grants were approved at the Board’s regular meeting in May. Grants are funded twice a year to governmental entities, non-profit corporations and other organizations for projects that improve the quality of life for residents in East Montgomery County. Mini grants are available for up to $5,000 and require no match from the organization. Regular grants are available for up to $30,000. Non-profit applicants of this type of grant must have at least 33 percent matching funds for their projects; taxing entities must have at least 50 percent of matching funds.
Mini Grants ($5,000 and under)
American Legion Holbrook Post 615 – $5,000
- Grant funds will fund attendance of 8 boys to the Texas Boys State 2017 program.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 615 – $5,000
- Grant funds will fund attendance of 8 girls to the Bluebonnet Girls State program.
Girl Scout Troop 116007 – $500
- Grant funds will be used to help fund a camping trip.
The Women’s Center, Lone Star College – Kingwood – $5,000
- Grant funds will purchase books for a literacy program.
Woodbranch Village Police Department – $5,000
- Grant funds will purchase tasers, taser holsters, taser batteries, smart cartridges and data port download USB kits.
Grants ($5,001 – $30,000)
Montgomery County Youth Services – $6,000
- Grant funds will help send 20 children from East Montgomery County to the 2017 Camp Watsitumi.
Roman Forest Police Department – $20,000
- Grant funds will be used to update radio systems in compliance with the Montgomery County radio system.
