Everything from new buildings at the VFW to heartworm treatment will be funded through the East Montgomery County Improvement District’s Community Development Grant program.
The Board approved $157,356.68 in funding for 14 grants for organizations serving East Montgomery County communities. EMCID accepts funding requests for community development grants twice a year. Governmental entities or nonprofit organizations can apply for up to $30,000.
The following organizations were awarded grant monies:
Boy Scout Troop 1011: $5,000 – Funds will assist with van rentals and camping equipment as the troop continues to expand.
Catholic Daughters of America: $5,000 – Funds will pay for three AED machines, trauma and first aid kits, and AED training at the St/ John on the Cross Catholic Church in New Caney.
Cub Scout Pack 39: $3,840 – Funds will purchase a new trailer to haul equipment and food to campouts.
East Montgomery County Sports Association: $30,000 – Funds will pay for improvements at the Ed Rinehart Park, including 10-foot fences to prevent injury to spectators at the games.
The East Montgomery County Swim Team: $5,000 – Funds will pay for materials to build diving blocks for the smaller children participating on the swim team.
Friends of R.B. Tullis Library: $10,000 – Funds will buy books and other materials for the library.
The Heartworm Foundation: $5,000 – Funds will pay for heartworm testing, treatment and prevention of 43 dogs in the New Caney area.
Mission Northeast: $30,000 – Funds will help renovate a portion of the Mission’s building.
Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office: $4,800 – Funds will pay for five new body cameras to replace the previous cameras they were utilizing.
Montgomery County Youth Services: $5,000 – Funds will pay for 20 kids from East Montgomery County to attend MCYS’s summer camp, Camp Watsitumi.
New Caney High School Spirit Band Club: $1,671.32 – Funds will pay for lighting in the band’s equipment trailer.
New Caney New Horizons: $17,045.36 – Funds will help update and improve the organization’s telephone and internet services and security cameras.
Splendora High School Project Graduation: $5,000 – Funds will pay for the venue for the Class of 2019’s Project Graduation.
VFW Post 4816: $30,000 – Funds will help pay for a pavilion outside of the VFW in Porter.
