As a family who often comes together over a cup of coffee, Buster’s Brew owner Tayra Peterson wanted to bring that same mentality to the café when it opened more than five years ago.
To add to their repertoire of coffee and food offerings, Tayra recently purchased a new espresso machine with the assistance of EMCID. In 2019, EMCID Directors approved a $20,000 grant for Buster’s Brew to hire two new employees and purchase the espresso machine.
“EMCID helped us replace equipment that is well-used and make some repairs,” said Tayra. “It was very generous. We are more than thankful to the EMCID Board of Directors for their assistance; it has helped us tremendously.”
In addition to the new espresso machine, the idea behind Buster’s Brew Café and Deli in New Caney is ever-evolving. First, starting with coffee and then adding different food items such as sandwiches, French toast, soups and taco salad.
“My family and I wanted to create a meeting place for the area,” said Tayra. “We strive to be family-oriented and comfortable. We all like coffee, so this was the perfect fit. The food side of the business was developed because when we first opened, there was nowhere else to eat around here.”
Tayra’s advice to other business owners looking to move to East Montgomery County is to hire locally and focus on customer service.
“If your employees are happy, they will provide great customer service with a smile,” said Tayra.
Currently, coffee is half of their business and the other half is food offerings that Tayra makes sure receives her family’s approval first before she will serve it to customers.
“Between my husband and my son, they are the chief food tasters,” said Tayra. “As long as they like it, then we will serve it. Honestly, our whole family eats here regularly and makes sure we continue to serve food we will eat.”
Going forward, Buster’s Brew owners have plans to extend their hours to include dinner and serving wine and craft beer during those times and adding a side door for customers to easily access the patio.
“We have had special events here including concerts and holiday events. We strive to be a family joint with the furniture, and we treat you like family,” said Tayra. “We want Buster’s Brew to be a place where you can enjoy good coffee, good food and a warm, inviting atmosphere where you feel at home.”
