EMCID, Entergy and Mission Northeast Present Harvey-related Grants

Since Hurricane Harvey caused damage and flooding to the East Montgomery County area in August 2017, businesses and residents have worked hard to repair the devastation and return to a sense of normalcy.

To further these efforts, the East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) along with Entergy and Mission Northeast presented three grants to the cities of Splendora, Patton Village and Roman Forest for improvement projects within each entity.

“Three organizations working together to create a better community is a great testament to how East Montgomery County pulls together in a time of need,” said Frank McCrady, President and CEO of EMCID. “The grant required Entergy’s funds to flow through a local non-profit [Mission Northeast] and a match from a local government agency [EMCID], thus requiring all three organizations to work in tandem to bring these needed funds to East County.”

After Hurricane Harvey, EMCID and its Board of Directors received and considered numerous requests for funding assistance, each with the purpose of promoting the general welfare of the residents of cities within the district and encouraging economic development.

EMCID and Entergy partnered to donate to Splendora, Patton Village and Roman Forest through Entergy’s Harvey Rebuilding Funds Grant Projects.

According to the grant agreement, all three cities chose projects that will improve and secure the quality of life for the cities’ residents.

Per the agreement, Entergy paid $17,300 to Mission Northeast and EMCID agreed to match Entergy’s monies to fully fund the improvement projects in the three cities.

“Mission Northeast is proud and honored to partner with EMCID and Entergy to help our cities complete these specific improvement projects,” said Mission Northeast Executive Director Pam Dickson Singletary. “We want to thank EMCID’s President/CEO Frank McCrady, the EMCID Board and Tracey Brodeur and Paula Odom with Entergy for inviting and allowing Mission Northeast to present these funds.”

Representatives from the three cities were presented with checks during EMCID’s monthly board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 8.

The city of Splendora received a grant for the total amount of $18,000 ($9,000 from Mission Northeast and $9,000 from EMCID) to purchase a new generator that will serve a sewer plant within the city.

“The city of Splendora has 19 sewer lift stations and only a few of the larger ones have a generator,” said Splendora City Secretary Danna Welter. “The Ipes lift station is a major carrier of sewage and this lift station is critical during power outages. The city does not have funds to add these costly generators without grant assistance. The city of Splendora is truly grateful for this assistance for the quality of life for our residents.”

The city of Patton Village received a total of $1,470 ($735 from Mission Northeast and $735 from EMCID) for the restoration of mulch in city playgrounds.

Lastly, the city of Roman Forest received a grant totaling $15,130 ($7,565 from Mission Northeast and $7,565 from EMCID) for the mitigation and repair of Pool House flooding.
